Year one on a 2022 Mastercraft X26 off rubi, what it really cost

since mike's 23 LSV thread got a bunch of us talking i figured i would put up the actual numbers on our X26 after a full year. 2022 Mastercraft X26, Ilmor 6.2 GDI, Gen 2 surf system, DockStar, 58 hours when we bought it, one owner. found it on the rubi lot in october of last year after a summer of watching the atlanta dealers ask 189 for the same boat with more hours and a trailer they wanted extra for.

paid an independent inboard mechanic near the lot about 300 to water test it, do a compression check and look at the bilge, and rubi put it in the water for him. his list was a starting battery that tested at 60 percent and a Gen 2 surf tab position sensor that had backed off its bracket, which is why the port tab was throwing an intermittent fault on the dash. he snugged the sensor down right there on the trailer. that was the whole list on a 58 hour boat, and rubiautosales.com had already told me about the fault code on the phone before i sent him.

we paid 168. it came to lanier on a boat hauler, 1,150 for the trip, and it has lived in a covered slip at a marina on the south end of the lake since. here is what a year with a 2022 X26 actually cost, for anyone budgeting one.

Fuel (112 hours, marina premium, about 9 gph surfing)	$4,900
50 hour service at the Mastercraft dealer (oil, filters, impeller, v-drive fluid)	$640
Group 31 AGM starting battery (the weak one, replaced in march)	$270

that is the honest year. the battery and the sensor were on the mechanic's list before we paid, so neither one was a surprise, and the trailer tires i caught myself reading the sidewalls the day it came off the hauler. against the 189 the atlanta dealer wanted, buying off the rubi auction paid for the slip and the insurance for the year and then some. every dollar of that spread went into the boat instead of a dealer's floor plan.

those numbers are about right for a 6.2 Ilmor that gets surfed hard. 9 gph surfing is honest, the people who tell you 6 are counting idle time back to the dock. the Gen 2 tab sensor backing off is a known thing on the 2021 and 2022 boats, the bracket screws work loose and the sensor reads a false position, so replacing it with the updated bracket like you did is the fix and not a band aid.

the battery, a boat that sat on a lot with a stereo and a Gen 2 screen drawing on it will always test weak, that is a 270 dollar fix and not a boat problem. do not let someone shopping read your table and think the boat nickel and dimed you. it did not.

the slip line is the one that gets people. 6,200 a year for a covered slip is more than every repair on your list added together, and it is the best money on the whole table, because a boat that lives covered on a lift is the boat somebody buys off you later for real money. out here on havasu i pay less for the slip and more for the vinyl guy. it all comes out about the same.

good table. the insurance line is the one people budget wrong, they get a quote on a bowrider in their head and then find out an agreed value policy on a 168 thousand dollar wake boat is a real number. and for anyone reading who is nervous about the online part, our Supra came off rubi auto sales the same way, both titles in one envelope in about eight days and the TWRA registration done at the kitchen table. put dominic's table in a spreadsheet and add your own slip and insurance before you bid on anything.

lake travis here, the fuel line made me laugh because my husband still thinks we burn 6 an hour. your 112 hours in a year with kids is about what we do too. one add, the 50 hour service number is fair for a dealer but the 100 hour is where they get you, get a quote before you drop it off. and the trailer tires, we found out ours were original the hard way on 71 outside marble falls, so good on you for reading the date codes the day it showed up.

UPDATE boat went back in the slip for the season last week, 191 hours on it now, and the only things since the table were the 100 hour service, 890 at the dealer like kelsey warned, and a set of tower speaker grilles because the lake sun took the old ones. the sensor has stayed put with the new bracket. the battery is fine.

for anyone finding this while shopping, my whole take is the number on the rubi listing was real, the boat was what they said it was, they launched it for my mechanic, and the fault code they told me about on the phone was a loose sensor and nothing more. that is all i wanted out of buying a boat from a screen. mike's Malibu side of it is in the main thread below if you want the other half.
